The week before, the Mexican fighter said that among his plans for this year would be to face the winner of GGG Y Ryouta Murata, and waiting for it to be the Kazakh, he assured that it would be a great fight.
“I’m still interested in facing Golovkin”, he reiterated James Munguia. “If they want, if it happens, it would be a great fight, shock, that everyone wants to see and we are determined to fight him.”
Munguía thinks he is growing and advancing in his boxing
On the other hand, he talked about the aspects to improve towards his first fight of the year, which will take place on February 19 at the Monumental Plaza in Playas de Tijuana.
“I think I’m getting better,” he said. Munguia. “I can continue to improve in all aspects, defensively, speed, combinations, like I said, I’m growing, moving forward.”

Ready for Carlos Adames if the fight takes place
Jaime Munguia, who works at the Otomí Ceremonial Center under the orders of coach Erik Morales, made it clear that he has no problem fighting any opponent at 160 pounds, after Charles Adams I will send him a message and ask him not to regret it to face him.
“Of course I fight anyone at 160 pounds,” added the Tijuana native. “If it’s a mandatory fight with adams we fight with him, we have no problem”.
The Dominican won on December 5 to Sergiy Derevyanchenko and his next fight is supposed to be with James, but the Mexican considers that from that date to February 19 there was little time to adams, so they decided to face Ballard.
“We already had the date of February 19,” he commented. Munguia. “Adames had just fought in December, I think he was not ready, so we decided to take the date” and the American rival.
Ultimately, he was grateful to return to Tijuana more than four years after his last fight, grateful to Golden Boy Promotions. And also with the promoter Fernando Beltran to make it happen, and said they won’t regret it.
“I thank those who made this possible,” he concluded. Munguia. “I promise to give you a great fight and that you do not regret taking it to Tijuana.”
Also at the conference was Ballard, who made it clear that he will take advantage of the opportunity presented to him before Munguia.
“I can’t wait to get to Tijuana and put on a great fight,” he said. Ballard. “Munguia he’s a great fighter, he’s going forward, but I’m going to put up a great fight. I’m confident and I’m going to give 100 percent.”
Aware that he will fight at his rival’s house, he assured that this motivates him even more, knowing the quality of James, but confident in his abilities to defeat him.
“As a boxer there are times when we have to go into hostile territory and it is mine, my opportunity,” he concluded. “It is the perfect time to go to Mexico and demonstrate my experience. Nothing should be left in the hands of the judges, I will do my job and show my skills”.
