Badosa and Keys, last champions before the Australian Open

With the Australian Open hours away from kicking off, the women’s world consecrated two new champions at the start of the season. They are Paula Badosa and Madison Keys.

The Spaniard beat Czech Barbora Krejcikova by a tight 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) to win her first crown of the year in Sydney and her third professional title.

Badosa’s physical display for more than two hours was imposed in the last assault on the skilled Czech tennis player, current champion of Roland Garros. She is already the sixth best player in the world, reaching her best ranking as a professional and placing herself very close to Karolina Pliskova.

While, Keys clinched the title of Adelaide’s second tournament after comfortably beating compatriot Alison Riske 6-1, 6-2. It is the first trophy Keys has lifted this year, and the first since August 2019 in Cincinnati.

The American was left choked to start a season in the best way after falling in 2020 against Karolina Pliskova in the Brisbane final. On the downside, she doesn’t have much time left to prepare for the Australian Open, where she will face none other than one of the week two contenders in Sofia Kenin in the first round.
